From the collection of MM Tremonto, Paris.

The Modern Chair by Clement Meadmore is a comprehensive survey of some of the most important chair designs of the modern era, examining how designers balanced function, materials, construction, and form to create enduring objects.

Originally published in the 1970s, the book presents more than forty influential chairs, ranging from Michael Thonet’s bentwood designs through the work of Gerrit Rietveld, Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Charles and Ray Eames, Verner Panton, and others. Each design is documented through photographs, detailed drawings, and, in some cases, original plans, with Meadmore discussing both the aesthetic ideas and practical problems behind their construction.
