William De Morgan: Pre-Raphaelite Ceramics by William Gaunt and M. D. E. Clayton-Stamm is an illustrated study of the life and work of one of the most inventive ceramic artists of the British Arts and Crafts movement.

A close associate of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones, De Morgan (1839–1917) developed a distinctive decorative language that combined medieval and Renaissance influences with Islamic ceramics and the ideals of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Renowned for his brilliant metallic lustre glazes, richly colored tiles, and fantastical designs featuring birds, animals, and elaborate botanical patterns, De Morgan helped redefine ceramics as an expressive art form.

Published in 1971, this substantial monograph examines De Morgan's artistic development, technical innovations, and enduring influence on decorative design. Illustrated with color and black-and-white plates, the book provides a valuable historical record of his ceramics and their place within the broader Arts and Crafts movement. An excellent reference for collectors of Victorian decorative arts, historic ceramics, and nineteenth-century design.
