Ori Carlin is an artist based in Rhinecliff, NY working in wood, mold making, and clay. Undergoing a translation from wood to clay through mold making or parts wheel-thrown and spliced together, the works in the show are then transformed through the addition of appendages or the carving away of existing clay body. By layering these methods, the pieces rehearse a continual metamorphosis - ornamental, alien, yet bodily in kind. The mannered progression of forms begets a style that is at once logical, academic, and completely strange. This meticulously uncanny group of objects questions material legibility, formal teleology, and desire. By allowing virtuosic application of technique to lead the way, the artist assembles a face both familiar and unknown.
