Bubble wrap: we all love it and love to pop it!

This fun tote bag by E for Effort - a collaborative design project between New York-based artists Beka Goedde and Rachel Ostrow - features a small bubble wrap pattern screen printed by hand.

100% cotton. 16" x 15" with 24" handles. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low.

Bubble wrap was invented in 1957 by Marc Chavannes and Alfred Fielding, who were attempting to create a three-dimensional plastic wallpaper. When that effort failed, they repurposed the material as a packing material and formed the Sealed Air Corporation to manufacture and sell it.

Bubble wrap is made by layering sheets of plastic film and then sealing the sheets together with a process called heat sealing. The plastic sheets are perforated with small, uniform bubbles that are evenly spaced apart. When the sheets are heat-sealed together, the bubbles are enclosed and form the characteristic, cushioning bubbles of bubble wrap.

Bubble wrap is widely used in the shipping and packaging industry, and it has also become a popular item for recreational use, as people enjoy popping the bubbles for stress relief or entertainment. In recent years, there has been a movement to reduce the use of single-use plastics, and there are now a number of eco-friendly alternatives to traditional bubble wrap available on the market.
