NUTS + BOLTS

From August 29 - October 5 Available Items is proud to present its second annual NUTS + BOLTS group exhibition.
Celebrating design ingenuity and the democratic spirit of DIY, the show features furniture and objects made from readily accessible, off-the-shelf parts by 24 established and emerging designers. Each piece is a creative articulation of
utilitarian materials that can be sourced from any local hardware store - from lamps that reframe the use of standard ceiling panels and vinyl tubing to seating made from deconstructed street brooms and chain link fence gates.

After launching an open call for proposals, participants were asked to design and construct a piece of furniture or home decor using only materials and parts sourced from a local hardware store. The works could only contain a minimal amount of dimensional lumber and no 3D printing or online sources such as McMaster Carr were allowed. The prompt gave participants free rein to experiment, presenting underutilized and underappreciated materials in a whole new light.
